Home

We are home. We have been home almost 2 weeks and it has taken me this long to work out how to use my blog. If I can just get my camera to talk to my computer I could post a picture to prove we here. We brought nice, hot weather with us but now I hear torrential rain is on the way - oh well.

Packing up, ready to go

We are leaving this afternoon for Salt Lake City to catch a flight tomorrow morning to go back to the UK. I had a lovely leaving lunch on Wednesday with my quilting friends and now we are packed up and ready to go. I am really going to miss all the wonderful friends I have made here but I am excited to be going home to our own house again. Next blog will be from there. Farewell Idaho Falls but we will be back I'm sure.

Go with the flow

Here is the picture of the turtle quilt I promised. The title of this one is 'Go with the flow'. The SRVQG had a challenge to interpret an idiom or oxymoron and I go 'go with the flow'. Recently I was given a small piece of mottled green fabric to which turtles had been added using a bleach pen and stencil with the challenge 'do something with this'. This little piece is my answer to both challenges.

Here is a picture of my journal quilt for April. 'Little Fish'. I put this together from small pieces of hand dyed and painted fabric made at a recent workshop. I love the underwater feeling from layering several of these pieces together. I finished it with Angelina fibre and beads for bubbles.

Frogs!!

Lately my quilts seem to feature frogs and fish - I really don't know where all these aquatic creatures come from but there they are. Here is 'Fuzzy frogs'. This one has been a long time in the making. It is a design by Ruth Jensen featuring 3 dimensional frogs. I started it as fun project thinking it would be really quick and easy - I am here to tell you it is not. The frogs are made from minkee - a wonderfully soft, tactile fabric but a b---- to work with. The bellies are pockets so it could be hung as a wall hanging and the pockets used for storage. G has laid claim to it for her bedroom.

Next is a 'stack & whack' project. Started as a challenge from my friend S - she gave me the fabric to try out for stack & whack and the thing just grew from there. Here is a picture of it on L's design wall in development and finally a picture of the complete top - featuring the frogs - on display at the SRVQG April meeting 'show & tell'.

I also have a journal quilt featuring fish and a small art quilt featuring turtles - I will take some better pictures of those before posting them up.

Valentine's quilt

I know it is nearly a month late but a friend just sent me these 2 lovely pictures of my Valentine's Day quilt on display at the Quilt Guild. It was a UFO (unfinished object - for non quilters). I had the top finished for Valentine's Day 2007 but it lay around because I didn't want to quilt it. The Guild has a UFO challenge - in November you sign up a UFO and have it finished by February or pay a fine. This was my challenge. Luckily a friend lent me a better sewing machine - a Bernina - very like the one I left in Britain so I was able to machine quilt it and get it finished in time. It looks pretty good in the pictures but I don't think it is going to make it back to Britain.

Geisha

I have just noticed that I never posted a picture of the Geisha quilt I promised. Here it is. This is just the blocks - it has now been quilted by my friend Kat Blakeley from The Quilted Daisy with an all over design of dragonflies. I love it. There is also a picture of it on the Quilt Guild website. Follow the link on the left and look under 'show & Tell' - January 2008.
